Building a Better Alberta with Affordable Housing

A Place to Call Home
More than 22,000 Albertans will have a place to call home thanks to approximately $1 billion in capital funding which is helping to spur the development of more than 11,000 housing units for homeless and lower income Albertans. To learn more about this milestone achievement read the news release.

A Historic Commitment

In 2007, Alberta was experiencing unprecedented prosperity and growth, with these changes came challenges. A growing population and demand for housing put pressure on the housing supply. In response Premier Stelmach struck an Affordable Housing Task Force, and based on recommendations from the Task Force, the provincial government committed to support the development of 11,000 affordable housing units by 2012.

Housing–safe, affordable, life-changing!
The Government of Alberta in partnership with municipalities, non-profit groups and the private sector is helping to transform lives.
