Municipal Affairs to include housing focus
The new Ministry of Municipal Affairs is part of Premier Redford’s strategy to take action on Albertans’ priorities. Under Housing Development and Operations we are responsible for:
• Ensuring Albertans of modest means have access to affordable housing that meets their basic needs
• Supporting a mix of existing and new housing options for families, individuals, seniors and Albertans with special needs
• Delivering capital grant programs to increase the Province’s supply of affordable housing
• Monitoring housing agreements related to affordable housing units
• Ensuring the operations of the 26,500 provincially-owned and/or supported social housing units are managed effectively
• Managing the delivery of rent supplement programs and other grant initiatives
The Ministry works with over 400 organizations, including municipalities, housing management bodies, non-profit and private sector organizations to ensure housing for Albertans in need.

Building A Better Alberta — 11,000 reasons to celebrate!

New projects to add over 800 more homes
An investment of close to $90 million in will help to create over 800 more homes for lower-income and homeless Albertans. Read more about this federal-provincial funding which leverages community resources from the non-profit and private sector to increase the affordable housing supply across Alberta.
Provincial RFP helps develop more housing for low-income and homeless Albertans
On May 4, Minister Denis invited applications for up to $100 million in 2011-12 Housing Capital Initiatives grants to help develop more housing units for low-to-moderate income and homeless Albertans in communities across the province. He was joined by Heather Klimchuk, Minister of Service Alberta and MLA for Edmonton-Glenora, Reginald Appleyard, Executive Director, Brentwood Family Housing Society and Carrie Smiley, a resident of one of the Brentwood properties.Read the news release
